Wedding Day Countdown Ticker Timer

Wedding Countdown Builder — User Guide

Last updated: 2026-09-27

A simple guide to creating, customizing, and sharing your wedding countdown timer at countdown.weddingday.website.

Getting Started

  1. Go to countdown.weddingday.website.

  2. Click Create account and enter the access code you received with your purchase, plus a username and password you choose.

  3. That's it — no email address is needed, and none is ever sent to you. Your username and password are what you'll use to sign back in.

If you don't have an access code, contact the seller you bought your template from — codes are issued per purchase and each one works only once.

Already have an account? Just click Sign in and enter your username and password.

Building Your Countdown

Once you're signed in, click Create new countdown. The builder walks you through four steps, and a live preview on the right side of the screen updates instantly as you make changes, so you always see exactly what your countdown will look like before you save it.

  1. Your wedding — names, date, and timezone

  2. Pick a look — a ready-made style to start from

  3. Background — solid color, gradient, or your own photo

  4. Fonts & colors — fine-tune everything to match your wedding style

You can move back and forth between steps as many times as you like before saving — nothing is final until you click Save & get my code.

Step 1: Your Wedding Details

FieldWhat it does
Namese.g. "Sarah & James" — shown as the main title
SubtitleOptional line under the names, e.g. "are getting married"
Date & timeThe exact moment your countdown reaches zero
TimezoneMakes sure the countdown ticks down to the right moment no matter where a guest is viewing it from
Message after the dateWhat shows once the countdown finishes, e.g. "Today's the day!"

The timezone matters even if you and your guests are all in one place — it's what keeps the countdown accurate to the minute.

Step 2: Pick a Look

Eight built-in presets give you a complete, coordinated starting point — colors, fonts, and background all set at once:

  • Black & Gold

  • Blush

  • Sage & Ivory

  • Navy

  • Classic

  • Burgundy

  • Emerald

  • Terracotta

Click any preset to apply it instantly in the preview. A preset is just a starting point, not a final choice — every color, font, and background it sets can still be changed individually in Steps 3 and 4.

Step 3: Background

Choose one of three background types:

  • Solid color — a single flat color

  • Gradient — two colors blending at an angle you set

  • Photo — upload your own engagement photo or wedding image

When you upload a photo, a darkening slider (overlay) lets you dim it so your text stays readable on top — push it higher for a busy or bright photo, lower for a photo that's already dark.

Photos are automatically resized in your browser before upload, so you don't need to compress or resize the image yourself first — just pick a photo you like. There's a 3 MB file size limit per image.

Step 4: Fonts, Colors & Style

Fonts — choose from 12 Google Fonts, set separately for two places:

  • The names/title font (e.g. Great Vibes, Allura, Cinzel)

  • The countdown numbers font (e.g. Playfair Display, Montserrat, Poppins)

Colors — three independent color pickers:

  • Title color

  • Number color

  • Label color (the small "days / hours / minutes / seconds" text)

Number style — how each time unit is displayed:

  • Boxed — numbers sit inside solid boxes

  • Circle — numbers sit inside circles

  • Ring — numbers sit inside outlined rings

  • Plain — no box or border at all

Units to show — check or uncheck days, hours, minutes, and seconds individually. Hide seconds, for example, if you'd rather the display feel calmer and update less frequently.

Text size — a slider to scale the whole countdown display larger or smaller within its box.

Choosing Your Size

The live preview panel shows your countdown at its actual proportions as you build it. Four quick-size buttons cover the most common uses:

PresetDimensionsGood for
Banner600 × 200A thin strip across a page
Wide800 × 300A prominent, full-width feature
Square420 × 420A sidebar or social-style layout
Compact360 × 300Smaller sections or mobile-first designs

You can also type in a custom width and height if none of the presets fit your template exactly. The countdown automatically scales itself to fill whatever box you give it, so it will always look right at the size you choose — there's no need to redesign anything for a different size later.

Saving and Getting Your Code

When your countdown looks right in the preview, click Save & get my code. You'll then get two things:

  1. A link — a shareable web address for this specific countdown

  2. An embed code snippet — a small block of HTML (an iframe) you can paste into any site that accepts HTML

Both are shown with a one-click Copy button, so you never need to type or edit them. Keep both handy — which one you use depends on where you're adding the countdown (see the next two sections).

Adding It to Canva

The most common way to use your countdown is inside a Canva website template. Canva's Embed app takes a link (not pasted code), so:

  1. In Canva, open Apps → search for and open Embed.

  2. Paste your countdown link from the builder into it.

  3. Position and resize the embed on your page, then publish your Canva website.

Important: Canva's Embed app only works with links from websites it has approved. If Canva shows "link not supported," that's Canva's own restriction, not a problem with your countdown — always test one embed in your actual template before relying on it. If the link doesn't work, the builder also offers a Canva Code file (download or copy) under Canva's newer HTML-import feature (Apps → Code → import HTML), which brings in your countdown as a self-contained file with all your settings already built in. Note that a Canva Code import is a snapshot — if you edit your countdown afterward in the builder, you'll need to re-export and re-import it to see the changes in Canva.

Adding It to Other Websites

For Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, Showit, Shopify, or any site builder with an "embed HTML" or "custom code" block:

  1. Add an HTML/embed block to your page.

  2. Paste in the embed code snippet (not the link) from the builder.

  3. Save and preview your page — the countdown will appear live, ticking in real time, at the size you set.

This method works on virtually any modern website, since it's just a standard, universally supported way of embedding content.

Managing Your Saved Countdowns

After signing in, you'll see a dashboard listing every countdown you've saved, each with a small live thumbnail preview so you can tell them apart at a glance.

From this dashboard you can:

  • Edit any saved countdown — changes take effect immediately at its existing link, so anywhere you've already embedded it will automatically show the update

  • Delete a countdown you no longer need

Each account can save up to 10 countdowns. If you're planning multiple events or want backups of different styles, keep this limit in mind.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

I forgot my password. There's no email on file, so there's no automatic "forgot password" link. Contact the seller you purchased from and they can reset it for you.

Canva says "link not supported." This is a restriction on Canva's side (see Adding It to Canva above), not an error in your countdown. Try the Canva Code file import instead, or use the iframe embed code on a different website.

My countdown isn't showing after I saved it. Double-check you copied the whole link or embed code, with nothing cut off at the start or end. If you edited the countdown afterward, make sure you're viewing the updated link, not an old copy saved somewhere else.

My background photo won't upload. Check that the file is under 3 MB and is a standard image format (JPEG or PNG). Very large, uncompressed photos straight from a camera can sometimes exceed this before the automatic resizing finishes.

The countdown looks too small or too large where I placed it. Use the custom width/height fields in Step 7 (Choosing Your Size) to match the exact space on your page, or resize the embed box on your site — the countdown automatically scales to fit.
